Rose (Rosarito) G. Mcteigue

Rose (Rosarito) G. McTeigue left us to be with our Lord and Savior and amongst His angels on August 5, 2017. Her life on earth was best characterized by her devotion to her late husband, Lincoln McTeigue; the love of her siblings, and her commitment to her many nieces and nephews. Her wisdom, her comforting words and her joyful way of approaching life will be missed by all. Rose was born on June 14, 1925 in Willard, NM in times that had far less material wealth but endless supplies of love, faith, and strength of spirit. Rose is survived by her beloved sister, Maria Maes and special nephew, George Gomez, whom she helped raise. She is preceded in death by her father, Antonio Gomez and her mother Rufina Gomez, who died when Rose was just 8 years old. Her father raised their six daughters. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Jesucita Maes, Carmen Flores, Rosalia Warcken, and Clara Romero. Rose and her sisters spent many afternoons playing a cut-throat card game called Cocina that they invented with their father. Rose graduated from Estancia High School when she was 16 and immediately began working at the local post office as Postmistress to help support her family. She moved to Santa Fe and worked at various state agencies where she eventually retired as the Director of the Motor Transportation Department. During that time, she would often take driving vacations to Mexico with her husband. Even as a dedicated civil servant, Rose always had time for her nieces and nephews. She and Lincoln were always willing to show them how to drive a truck, ride a horse, make tortillas, plant and pick vegetables, and support them in their academic work. Nieces and nephews were awarded with $1 for A’s in school work and $5 for school work in Spanish. Upon their retirement from the state, Rose and Lincoln established a ranchito in Hondo, NM, where they enjoyed their remaining years together, planting chile and corn, growing apples, and tending to their livestock. Rose moved back to Santa Fe upon Lincoln’s passing and spent her remaining years with her sisters, nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Rose always provided a calming voice and a beautiful smile, even in difficult times. Rose and Lincoln were dedicated Roosevelt and Kennedy Democrats who believed that the Hispanic working class and poor who fought for America, deserved the best America had to offer. Rose was a devoted sister, wife, aunt, civil servant, and parishioner of San Isidro Church. Her life and her rebirth as an angel will be celebrated with Our Lord at San Isidro Catholic Church (Little Church), 3688 Agua Fria Street, Santa Fe, NM, with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Honorary Pallbearer George Gomez, Pallbearer: Fernando Flores, Adrian Maes, David McTeigue, Robert Romero, Richard Galaz, Robert Borrego, Geno Fulgenzi.
