Ruben Lopez

Ruben I. Lopez, 96, a resident of Chimayo and Espanola passed away on Monday August 24, 2020. He was born on June 7, 1924. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Velma, his parents; Abenicio and Ernestina Lopez, his sisters; Maria and Celina Lopez, his brothers; Jake, Anselmo and Arthur Lopez.

He is survived by his daughter Marlene Lopez Vega (Aurelio), his sons: Ruben and David Lopez, his sister; Irene Griego (Richard), his sister-in-law Lolita Lopez and Gloria Lopez, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, twenty-one great great grandchildren and two great, great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

The Vigil DeAguero Family were very special to him. He was an adopted Grandpa to Leon.

Ruben had a horse named Prince that he rode in the Espanola Parades. When Prince passed away, he had him buried on his land. Ruben enjoyed attending Senior Citizen in Chimayo and Espanola, referring to the group as Los Teenagers. He loved to socialize and was always ready to play and sing for birthday celebrations. He was an excellent dancer and loved to dance.

He loved to listen to his friends CD’s (Bonifacio Benavidez) and to his music at Senior Citizens. Ruben was a friend to many and will be remembered by all of us for his music, singing and making us laugh.

Visitation and viewing will be held at Rivera Family Funeral in Espanola 4:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11th, 2020. The holy rosary will be prayed for Mr. Lopez following visitation at 6:00 p.m.

Mass of christian rite will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Espanola on Saturday, September 12th, 2020 Begining at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
