Ruby Valdez Martinez was born December 2, 1911 and passed away peacefully in her home on January 12, 2017.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Max Martinez, parents Raquel and Demetrio Valdez of Velarde, NM. Her sisters Celsa Herrera, Josephina Martinez, Carolina Lopez, Cecilia Romero, Aurora Montoya and brothers Frank Valdez, Ruperto Valdez, Apolinar Valdez, Rafael Valdez, and Demetrio Valdez.
Ruby is survived by Samuel Montoya, whom she raised as a son, Sam's companion Ruby L. Molinar and brother in law Paul Romero.
Also surviving Ruby are special nieces and nephews: Kathy and Alfredo Romero and family, Eileen Alarid and family, Gilbert and Judy Montoya and family, Anthony Montoya, Kevin and Stephanie Montoya and family and Tito and Barbara Montoya and family.
Ruby was a devoted wife and a loving aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She was a factory worker during World War II assisting in its cause and a Co-business Owner and farmer with her husband. She was a superb cook which she exhibited daily as a head Cook at Holy Cross Catholic School in Santa Cruz for over 25 years. She gave back to the community as Senior Companion and was also a lifelong member of the Order of Carmelitas of Santa Cruz.
She was known as Aunt Ruby to hundreds of school children, family and friends. Aunt Ruby was also a second Mother and Grandmother to those closest to her.
Our beloved Aunt Ruby will be greatly missed but we are comforted in knowing the angels in heaven are waiting and rejoicing and welcoming Ruby home to be with our Blessed Father in heaven
The family would like to give a special thank you to Elena Herrera for the love, support and care she gave to Aunt Ruby during the last nine years as well as the many other care givers.
On Monday January 16, 2017 a rosary will be said at 11:00 am. with a mass to follow at 12:00 noon at the Santa Cruz de la Canada Catholic Church Monday January 16, 2017.
She will be ushered to her final resting place by Pall Bearers, Kevin Montoya, Gilbert Montoya, Jemuel Montoya, Alfredo Romero, James Romero, Tomas Martinez Jr.
