Rudy Lujan

M. Rudy Lujan passed away on July 19, 2024. He was born on August 22, 1940 in Santa Fe New Mexico to Jose and Mary Lujan. He is survived by his wife Fermie to whom he was married for 56 years and by his children Manny Lujan, Mona Lujan, and spouse Brent Smerud. He is also survived by his sisters Viola Smith, Christine Garcia and brother John Lujan and wife Kristi, sister-in-law Tina Lujan, brother-in-law Robert Serna, Steven Day and Richard Castellano. Brother and sister in law Oliver and Gina C de Baca, Dave and Mary Dillon, Genera Cunningham, Irenio and wife Orlinda Martinez, nephew Pat Dominguez who diligently assisted his uncle while he was ill and many other nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Mary Lujan and in-laws Louis G. Martinez and Ramona Martinez, his son Chuck Lujan, his sisters Nadine (Loretta) Day, Rosella Castellano, Priscilla Serna, and brother Tony Lujan.

Rudy was a 1959 alumni of St. Michael’s High School and 1964 alumni of St. Michael’s College then known as College of Santa Fe. He was a Certified Public Accountant and Auditor for the State of New Mexico and owned his own Auditing Firm. He served as a sergeant in the Air Force and received many commendations. He was a longtime and beloved member of the Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Community choir, was the business manager for the New Mexico School for the Deaf for 10 years, a past member of the PERA Public Employees Retirement Association, Past board member of Guadalupe Credit Union and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Rudy loved his family and friends very much and spoke of them often. He always looked forward to the gatherings with his alumni brothers at the home of Morris and Louise Apodaca. We thank those who cared for him while he was able to be in the comfort of his own home. We thank family and friends who visited him. Rudy truly loved and appreciated all who cheered him up while he was ill.

A rosary will be recited at 10:00 am followed by A Mass of Christian burial on August 1st at 10:30 am at Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Community, 11 College Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87507. The burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00pm, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe NM 87501. Reception to follow at Santa Maria de La Paz after the burial.
