Ruth Isabelle Felt, 94, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at her son's house in Taos, New Mexico just shy of her 95th birthday. Mrs. Felt was born in Alliance Ohio, the daughter of James F. Sullivan and Clara Sullivan, nee Schneider. She lived in Niles Ohio until 1941 when she married Lt. Robert L. Felt, USNR of Minneapolis Minnesota. Mr. Felt was a metallurgical engineer. After service during the Second World War, they moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where Mr. Felt lived until she moved to Taos, New Mexico in August of this year.
She worked for Sears and Roebuck, becoming one of the first female department heads. After retirement the Felts loved traveling to Israel, Turkey, and Egypt and dedicated themselves to their grandchildren.
Mrs. Felt was a fifty-four year member of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church where she was active in Sunday School Class and was frequently found working in the church kitchen. Until the time of her move, she was cooking meals to raise money for missions. She was also active with the Salvation Army. Mr. and Mrs. Felt were recipients of the Booth Award for exceptional service to the Salvation Army.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011 and is survived by her son Robert Felt Jr. and his wife Martha of Taos New Mexico and her daughter Rebecca Bickel, M.D., and Reverend Dr. Bruce Bickel of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She had three grandsons, Kristopher, Robert, and William and a granddaughter, Amelia. She would have become a great grandmother in January of 2014.
There will be a memorial service at the United Presbyterian Church, Washington Road, Pittsburgh 15216. A light lunch and fellowship will follow in the Church Hall. We request a gift to the Salvation Army or the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
