RUTH SMITH, age 78 of Espanola, NM. died peacefully on Monday February 23, 2009. She owned & operated The Hometown Bakery in Espanola for many years, and was also a seamstress. A longtime resident of Abiquiu, Ruth spent the later years in the Fairview area near Espanola while running the bakery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Smith, her parents George and Velvia Goad, brothers and sisters: Harold Goad, Ersie Goad, Wesley Goad and Martha Toole. She is survived by her only remaining sibling, her brother Herman Goad of Ojo Caliente, nieces: Shirley Archuleta of Tierra Amarilla, Mary Goad of Artesia, Sharon Rowe and husband Keith of Washington, Emily Goad of Velarde and Margaret Goad of Ojo Caliente, nephew Robert Goad of Artesia, great-niece Melinda Salazar and husband Jaime of Tierra Amarilla and other relatives. A public visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-7 pm, with a brief devotional service beginning at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary. A graveside devotional service will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 am at Fairview Cemetery in Santa Fe, located on Cerrillos Road (just West of St. Francis Drive).
