Sammy James Gurule

Sammy James Gurule – Age 18 a resident of Las Tusas passed away on Friday, November 10, 2006 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Sammie Gurule in 1984. Sammy was a 2006 Mesa Vista High School Graduate. He was involved in Mariachi and Future Farmers of America and the student council. He was an honor student from Kindergarten through high school. He was active with the Rio Arriba County Fair, having received many awards from the New Mexico State Fair winning Grand Champion. He enjoyed showing his animals that he raised, showing them at many livestock exhibits. He was most recently enrolled at the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. While enrolled in college, his heart was back home with his family and caring for their animals at the Ranch. Sammy dreamed big and set wonderful goals for himself. He is survived by his parents: Edwin and Phyllis Gurule; great grandmother, Maria Trujillo of Las Cruces; great grandfather, Thomas Garcia of Taos; paternal grandmother, Loyda Gurule of Ojo Caliente; maternal grandmother, Eleanor Suazo of Taos; aunts and uncles: Melvin Gurule and wife Claudia of Standing Rock, NM, Edwina Fisher and husband Howard of Bristow, OK, Kathy Taylor of Beggs, OK, Rebecca Gurule-Lovato and husband Nick of Ojo Caliente and Antoinette Suazo of Taos; first cousins: Edwin Fisher, Dena Fisher, Serena Taylor, Kendra Taylor, Nichole Gutierrez, Ashley Gutierrez, Consuelo Gurule, Sara Gurule, Victoria Lovato, Nicholas Lovato; as well as numerous other cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. A devotional service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 12 noon at the Tres Piedras Elementary School. Burial will follow at the Tres Piedras Community Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Amy Tainter, Victoria Archuleta, Frances Herrera, Christina Lucero, Amanda Sandoval and Rachelle Jaramillo.
