Sammy Lovato

Sammy Eloy Lovato, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on April 21st at the age of ninety. Born in Santa Fe, NM on April 7, 1934, Sammy led a life filled with God, kindness, and generosity.  A proud Marine Veteran, he served in the Korean war and received numerous prestigious medals of honor.  He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy and Norte Dame fan.

Sammy was known for his unwavering love for his family and faith in God. His compassion touched the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he influenced.

Sammy is survived by his daughter, Terry Lovato, his grandchildren Cherise Martinez (Fernando), Samantha Urioste (JT), Angelica Urioste (Adam), great-grandchildren Christian, Kailey, Kyrie, Camila, Fernando Jr, Alejandro, and Sofia. He is also survived by his sisters, Stella Ortiz, Gladys Sedillo (Albert Sr.) Rose Chavez, Joyce Sandoval, and Elsie Abeyta, and sister in law Isabelle Lovato, also; Roberto Urioste and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Welcoming him into glorious heaven are his daughter, Peggy Sue Lovato, his parents Solomon Lovato Sr, Elvira Lovato, his brothers, Edward Lovato Sr., Juan Lovato, Solomon Lovato Jr. (Mayo), David Lovato and Alfred Lovato. BILs, Eddie, Mike, and Richard, And his dearest friend Mela Chavez.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A rosary will be recited at 11:30am on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, A Mass will follow immediately after the rosary.  The Burial Service will be on Friday May 3, 2024 at 9:30am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.  We will meet at Rivera’s Family Funeral home at 8:45am and proceed to the Santa Fe National Cemetery, his final resting place.
