Mr. Samuel Herrera, age 80, a resident of Alcalde, NM passed away on April 1, 2013. He was born on May 11, 1932 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated 2-H Construction Company for 40 years and built throughout the State of New Mexico. Samuel enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time out in the beautiful outdoors.
Samuel is preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Patrocinia Herrera, granddaughter Antonia Mascarenas, son-in-law Steve Vigil and brother-in-law Martin Valdez.
He is survived by his wife Maria, daughters Anna and Herman Garcia of McCurdy, Rachel and Robert Perea of Sandia Pueblo, Yvonne Herrera of Ojo Caliente and their mother, Amelia Gonzales of Espanola, Regina Rodella (who was raised as a daughter), sisters Rafie Hambly and Chuck of Las Vegas, NV and Emma of Farmington, brother Billy Leeway of Los Luceros, grandchildren Michael Martinez, Aaron Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Valerie Garcia, Steven Vigil, Desirae Montoya, Andrea Herrera, Estrella Lopez, Johnathan Lopez and Daniel Lopez, 17 great grandchildren, his wifes children Tommy and Debbie Rodella and their children (Thomas, Kara and Jeanene), Ronald Rodella and Rosabella Romero, children (Rabe, Rowan and Alycia), Eugene and Paula Rodella and their children (Regina and Eugene Jr.) and Dennis and Crystal Alarid, brother-in-laws Alex and Connie Valdez and Aquilino Valdez Jr., sister-in-laws Denise and Ray Coriz and Rachel Trujillo and caregiver Blanca Quintana.
A visitation and rosary were held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Rivera Family Funeral Home Chapel in Espanola. Funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo).
Pallbearers: Steve Vigil Jr., Michael Martinez, Martin Rivera, Thomas Rodella Jr., Ray Coriz Sr. and Johnathan Lopez.
