Sandra D. Gallegos passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a courageous, five-year battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 28th. She was born on January 13, 1952 to Ben and Carmen Montaño in Santa Fe, NM. She is preceded in death, by her daughter Sara, father Ben, in-laws Angelina and Jose Gonzalez, Joe Gallegos, and brother-in-law Tom Lovato.
Sandra is survived by a loving family including her devoted husband of 44 years Deacon Eloy Gallegos; beloved daughters Karen Bueno (Paul), and Shalyn Gallegos (Dominic); Mother Carmen; Grandchildren Ava, Jonah, Damián, and Sophie. She leaves behind, siblings, Melinda Wheeler (Albert), Rick Montaño (Jeanette), Eloise Archuleta (Gary), and Cindy Lovato; brother-in-law Jerry Gallegos (Tomasita), sisters-in-law Frances Garcia (Chris), Vicky Bickel, Joanne Gonzalez, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sandra graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1970 and earned her Associate of Art in Accounting from TVI in Albuquerque, NM. After 25 years of service, she retired from the State of New Mexico, to enjoy her grandchildren, camping, and traveling. She was also a woman of strong faith and actively dedicated to her home parish Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community.
All services will be held at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. Visitation will begin Tuesday, October 4th at 6:00 pm, followed by Rosary at 7:00 pm; Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 11:00 am, with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 pm. Pallbearers will be Matthew Wheeler, Aric Wheeler, Paul Bueno, Dominic Sanchez, Joey Montaño, and Aric Alexander Wheeler. Honorary Pallbearers, Rick Montaño, Albert Wheeler, Gary Archuleta, Jerry Gallegos and Arthur Maes.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at New Mexico Cancer Center, the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences staff, The 20th Century Club Lodge, and GENTIVA Hospice. We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thanks for all the prayers, love and support received.
