Santos Miguel (Mike) Chavez, 76, born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on April 10, 1941 has climbed his final mountain on his journey Home to be with Our Lord. He passed peacefully at his home in Pojoaque on March 22, 2018.
Mike was a U.S Army Veteran who served his country in the Heavy Weapons Infantry where he obtained a decoration as an Expert Rifleman. This led his journey through his life as a prodigious outdoorsman where he spent many days on the mountain. As a great hunter and fisherman, he was able to pass his knowledge of weaponry and survival down to his family and friends. He lead many gaming excursions, as well as, many family camping trips where he was always in his element.
After the military, He began his career as an auto mechanic working for Shamrock and Cherry Motors, he then went on to be a Road Construction Foreman for the City of Santa Fe for many years. He was an accomplished entrepreneur as he owned and operated his own Conoco Filling Station and auto repair in Espanola. He completed his work life with Ulibarri Landscape and Mino and Greg’s Towing.
Mike considered himself to be a very blessed man. He was a hardworking, gentle soul with a firm hand when it came to his children and their children. Ever loving and compassionate, he made a mark on our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Miguel and Francisca (Kika) Lobato, father Amarante Chavez, Step-father Max Quintana, Uncle Celestino Lobato, Uncle and Aunt Cipio and Mary Gonzales, Sister May Roybal, Brother -in-law Mike Gallegos, Son -in-law Jerry Anaya Sr., Grandson Nicholas Chavez, Nephew Marcos Gallegos, and Niece Victoria Roybal.
He is survived by his mother Rosina Quintana, Son Mike Chavez Sr., wife Wendy Hayes; daughters: Yolanda Chavez, Louise Rasgado husband Porfirio, Michelle Chavez husband Richard Quintana. Grandchildren Mike Chavez Jr., Amber Chavez (Tyler Guevara), Megan Chavez, Michaela Chavez, Phillip Chavez(Moraya), Loretta Chavez(Veronica), Jerry Anaya Jr., Estevan Anaya(Maria), Katelynn Anaya, Adan Rasgado, Jacqueline Chavez (Tai Otani), Robert Quintana (wife Erika), and Samantha Quintana. Great Grandchildren Mariah Chavez, Ebony Martinez, Monique Martinez, Joshua Chavez, Dennis Peralta, Estevan Anaya, Hiroshi Otani, Shakirah Quintana, and Brody Quintana; sister Marie Gallegos, brothers Ronald Quintana (wife Nellie), Robert Chavez, Brother-in-Law Joe Roybal, Lifelong Friend Mino Romero and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 5:30pm at Rosario Chapel with Rosary to follow at 6:30pm.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00am at Rosario Chapel followed by interment at 12:45pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
