Sara Alice Edelman, “Sally”, died peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with a neurological illness on December 1, 2016, at her home in Arroyo Seco. She was attended by her devoted husband, Rick Edelman. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Crowl of Taos and older sister, Margaret Jean MacArthur of Marlboro, VT. She is survived by her husband, Rick Edelman, her son, Max, daughter Aimee and grandchildren, Samantha, Dexter and Angelina, as well as her two brothers Jim Crowl of Arroyo Hondo, NM and Jack Crowl of Belen, nephews, Scott Crowl of Taos, Johnny Crowl of Los Lunas and Johnny MacArthur of Talpa. Rick’s family will be represented by his two sisters, Jamie Pollock of New Jersey, Laurie Edelman of New York and nieces Allison and Jessica Pollack. Sally was born on March, 10, 1946, in Hot Springs, AK, where her father was a district ranger for the US Forest Service. Traveling with the family, Sally grew up as a “new kid” in many different schools as her father was transferred to different states during WW2 and after. The family finally settled in Madisonville, KY where Sally finished high school and launched her career as an artist by attending the Ringling School of Art and studies in France. She also trained in ballet, she later taught dance as well as painting. She settled in Florida after her first marriage to Bruneto Zachini and the birth of her daughter, Aimee. Sally moved to Taos in the 70’s, married Rick Edelman and gave birth to her second child, Max. Always a free spirit, she was inspired by her love of magic, beauty and fantasy as nourished by her acquaintance with gypsy friends in Carson City, NV and circus performers in Sarasota, FL. Her beautiful paintings reflect this love of wildness and beauty. As a successful builder, Rick was able to utilize her talent for design in the construction of dozens of homes in the Taos area. Sally will be sorely missed by all of us who love her and appreciate the unique nature of her vast talent.
Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
