Scott Cameron Evans, born March 15, 1953, in Los Alamos, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 6, 2024, at the age of 71.
Scott was a vibrant, life-loving man who grew up drinking chocolate cokes in La Puebla, NM. He was a 1971 Graduate of Española High School. After his high school graduation, Scott joined the US Navy and spent 5 years as a Cryptologist at USNSGA, RAF in Edzell, Scotland. Following his honorable discharge, Scott attended Northern New Mexico College earning a degree in Electronics. He subsequently joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1976, where he worked in Internal Confinement Fusion research in the Weapons Physics Group, for 33 years, until his retirement from the Lab in 2012. In 1991, he was appointed team leader for the experimental diagnostic section, running experiments at LLNL’s Nova Laser system, Duke’s High Energy Gamma Source, Stanford's Linear Accelerator, and at the Lab for Laser Energetics, (LLE) in Rochester, New York.
Scott has been preceded in his passing by his parents, mother Irene Paine, his father Reid Evans and his step father, William Paine. Scott is survived by his two daughters Fiona Vigdor (Alex) and Brooke Evans (Ian); grandsons Stronner & Mcalisdair Vigdor and Aidan & Callum Gilbert; his sisters Noël Hancock (Jerry) and Kellie Rivera (Tim); his brothers Carter Evans (Janette) and Nik Evans (Monica); and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
Services will be held on Friday December 27, 2024 at 12:00PM MST at the Rivera Funeral Home (417 East Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87505) A livestream is available for those who cannot be with us to celebrate his life.
A reception will be held at Nuckolls Brewery (1611 Alcaldesa St, Santa Fe, NM 87501) from 3:00-5:00PM to connect and share stories about a man who had such a profound impact on all of our lives!
Scott will be buried at the National Cemetery in New Mexico with US Navy ribbons: National Defense, Honorable Service, Vietnam Service, and Good Conduct ribbons/medals.
In lieu of flowers, donations to honor his memory can be made to Sophie Thompson, a talented local volleyball player who he was sponsoring to help her achieve her dreams!
