Scott Dietrick

May 2, 1955 — June 23, 2024

Scott Eastman Dietrick, age 69, passed away surrounded by loving family on June 23, 2024 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he had been receiving treatment in his battle with brain cancer.

Scott was born May 2, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN, to the late Kathleen Virginia Pedersen and Ted Eastman Dietrick. By the age of 7, Scott knew his dream was to fly. At 15, he started working at Atlanta’s Peachtree DeKalb airport to afford flying lessons; he went on to get his first pilot’s license before he was licensed to drive a car. In 1978 he graduated from Auburn University, where he joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity and made lifelong friends. At Auburn, he earned his way through college as a flight instructor to ROTC students. After college, he embarked on a career as a private pilot for various airlines and corporations, traveling all over the world as he piloted everything from a Cessna to a G5.

Scott settled in Cumming, GA, where his beloved children were born. For many years, he specialized as a long term care insurance agent, and always kept in touch with his many clients. Later in his career, Scott returned to his first love, and his last two positions were flying covert missions for the US government in Afghanistan.

Scott is survived by his children, Ryan Michael Dietrick and Emily Rose Dietrick, and their mother, Anne Gorman; sister, Laurie D. Baker (Gregory); brother, Paul A. Dietrick (Holly); nephew, Matthew Baker; nieces, Lauren Dietrick and Thea Dietrick; and many extended family members, fraternity brothers, friends, and co-pilots.

Scott will be laid to rest in National Memorial Cemetery in Falls Church, Virginia later this year.
