With the strength he imparted within us, we celebrate the Eternal Transition of Sevastian E. Gurulé Sr., born September 19, 1971 in Santa Fe, NM. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Antonio & Genoveva Rodriguez, and Lauriano & Maria Ortiz Gurulé; and his parents Daniel & Bernadette Gurulé. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 31 years, Rosa Elva Gurulé, el Amor de su Vida; his children Maria-Bonita Tonantzin Gurulé and Sevastian E. Gurulé II together with Shania Wheeler & grand baby on his way; and his siblings Maria-Lupita, Miguel, and Daniela Gurulé.
Sevastian was the first of four children born into a musical family with deep roots, history, and tradition. He began playing guitar at age 8 and started playing professionally at age 12, together with his papá and younger brother Miguel in El Trio Guadalupano. Later in life, El Trio Gurulé was formed with his papá and younger brother Miguel in El Trio Guadalupano. Later in life, El Trio Gurule was formed with his papa and Tio Seferino Gurulé. In 1996, he proudly portrayed the role of Don Diego DeVargas in the Fiestas de Santa Fe with honor, integrity, and dignity. During his 28-year career with the City of Santa Fe, he held many a significant roles that supported and advocated for our community; whereas, “Sevastian E. Gurulé Sr. Day” was declared and recognized in history by Mayoral Proclamation on May 29, 2019. With his collection of jokes, bright smile, warm heart, and musical talent, he brought joy wherever he went. He always helped all who asked with the utmost respect giving his undivided attention, offereing his wisdom and encouragement. Through all his many life accomplishments, he was most proud of his wife, children, and family.
Services will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Pl., Santa Fe, NM: Holy Rosary on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 6:00pm. Doors will open at 5:50pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 9:30am followed by the Interment at Rosario Cemetery at 10:45am. We invite you to bring a written note of remembrance and/or a prayer to be given to the family.
Pallbearers are Sevastian E. Gurulé II, Miguel Gurulé, Victor Gurulé, Fernando Navarrete, Richard Ortega and Anthony Apodaca. Honorary Pallbearers are Mateo Martinez, Anthony J. Martinez, Andres Herrera y Gurulé, Miguel Herrera y Gurulé, Frank Gurulé, Raul Gutierrez, Roger Navarrete, Arturo Navarrete, and Gene Heredia.
