Shannon Marie McCarthy-Logan, born in Santa Fe on March 31, 1968, succumbed to cancer on January 6th, 2022, surrounded by family and holding her husband Mike’s hand. Shannon leaves behind an extended family who cherished her. Shannon is survived by her husband Kenneth Michael Logan, daughter McKenzie Ann Logan, parents John (Jack) F. McCarthy, Jr. and Kathleen J. McCarthy, sisters Anna M. Rivera, Kelli J. Cassidy (Billy), and Joan D. Snow (Roger), numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Shannon attended Gonzales Elementary, graduated from St. Michaels, and received a bachelors’ degree in education from the University of New Mexico. Always seeking to improve her teaching skills, Shannon also achieved a masters’ degree in elementary education with a focus on multi-cultural studies. Shannon loved working with children and decided not to pursue a PHD because it would lead to leaving the classroom. Not content with her educational degrees and always wanting to improve herself, Shannon also studied for and received a degree in paralegal studies that she never formally utilized.
Shannon commenced teaching in Albuquerque in 1991 and continued her career in Littleton, Colorado, from 1998 until 2020. In her final years she served as a Reading Interventionist seeking to strengthen the literacy foundation of every child.
Shannon met her husband Mike, in March of 1989, and they married on July 11, 1992. She experienced the joy of becoming a mother, giving birth to McKenzie on April 12, 1999. McKenzie is now a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder.
While Shannon and Mike worked hard, family and time spent with them was always the focus. They treasured every moment and experience raising McKenzie, enjoying the family cabin, camping trips, and summer vacations both in the U.S and Internationally, including a family reunion in Ireland, traveling with 40 family members, which was typical of the connected family life she led.
Shannon’s joyous smile and loving embrace will be missed by everyone who knew her. She will be especially missed by her students.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice, or one that seeks to improve child literacy. A celebration of life will be held in Colorado this summer.
The family has entrusted Shannon’s remains to the Rivera Family Funeral Home.
