Simodecia "Simme" Reyes

Simodecia “Simme'' Reyes 74, a resident of Rio Chama passed away peacefully from a lengthy illness on November 4, 2021, just 1 month shy from her 75th birthday. She was born December 4, 1946 to Amarante and Presciliana Garcia. Simme was a happy and jolly person. If you were lucky to know her well, you always knew that she would do whatever to help others, and always had a quick comeback to make you laugh. Simme retired after 17 years of service with the State of New Mexico. She was also employed part-time for Santa Maria El Mirador caring for special needs adults. One of her greatest joys with them was attending the Special Olympics every year.  She enjoyed her time at home being able to garden until her health no longer permitted her, but she still tried. She enjoyed going out to do anything fun with friends and family. Simme’s biggest joy was to attend a barbeque, picnic, or family gathering with her loved ones. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Manuel Reyes,her parents, two brothers Arnoldo (Jerry) Garcia and Noberto Garcia. Very special Aunts and Uncle Inacita Martinez, Angelina Maestas and Gregorio and Onofre Salazar, and a very special and dear friend George Mejia and brother-in-law Paul Cioe. 

She is survived by her brother Guadalupe Garcia and wife Laura of Rio Chama and sister Dolly Cioe of Chili. Her two nieces that she treated like her own daughters Priscilla LaDrew of Chili and Michelle LaDrew of California. Cousins she was extremely close to Pita Salazar and husband Lorenzo Quintana of Chili, Camila Garcia and husband Randy and Goddaughter Stephanie Salazar all of Espanola, her two special “little monsters” Kalista Garcia and Gabriel Salazar of Espanola, and Marylillian Maestas and husband Larry Martinez of Chili, and many more nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Serving as pallbearers will be; Kalista Garcia and Gabriel Salazar.

Holy Rosary will be prayed on Friday, November 12, 2021 6PM at Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola, Funeral Mass of Christian Rite will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 10AM at San Antonio Catholic Church de Medanales, New Mexico. Burial to follow thereafter. 

The family of Simodecia “Simme” Reyes has entrusted services to Rivera Family Funeral Home of the beautiful Espanola Valley.
