Mr. Simon Orona passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 16,
2017, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following a long term illness. He lived most of his life in our beautiful Taos community with his loving wife Clara Vasquez. He was a wonderful, kind, caring father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin “music buddy” and friend. Simon was born on March 2, 1938 in Durango Mexico. His parents were Julia Cervantes Lopez and Juan Orona Abrego. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Beatris, Pantalion, Juan and Juana Orona. His living brothers and sisters are Martha, Manual, Bertha, and Roberto Orona from California, and several nieces and nephews. Simon has two daughters, Silveria and Yolanda Orona, as well as ten grandchildren whom all reside in Mexico. Simon’s greatest passion in life was music and playing the accordion with his church choir, Living Center, Farmers Market, Christmas events, and many musical events in northern New Mexico for many years. Simon’s wish was to be laid to rest next to his mother and other siblings in the Orona family plot in Mexico. There will be a service burial in Mexico which all are welcome to attend. Please contact Clara or the Rivera Funeral Home for more information on location and dates.
Simon’s wife, Clara Vasquez, the Vasquez and the Orona family would like to thank all his family, friends, and especially all his “dearest musical related friends” and all the staff at Rivera Funeral Home for all the love and support during this difficult time. We will remember Simon as a wonderful, humble man with a great sense of humor who will be greatly missed.
