Stephanie Davis, born Stephanie Stutson Poor, died peacefully on April 20, 2022, at the Taos Retirement Village in Taos, NM. Stephanie, 92 years old, was born on August 6, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She spent much of her childhood in the village of Glendale, OH, and later attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. Stephanie married Henry Rentschler of Hamilton, OH, in 1951 and they moved to Berwyn, PA after Henry completed his service with the U.S. Navy. They had three children and divorced in 1968. Stephanie married Richard (Rick) Coleman Davis in 1971 and in 1973 they moved to Santa Fe, NM. Two of Rick’s ancestors, Charles and Frank Springer, were prominent in early New Mexican history. Rick’s brother Les and his family owned and managed the Charles Springer (CS) Ranch in Cimarron, NM. Stephanie was creative, inventive, talented and full of energy. She was an avid and enthusiastic gardener as well as a clothes designer. She spent spring and summers gardening but also found time to sew clothes for herself and her daughters. She and Rick started and ran for many years a boutique clothing business, Sunflower Fashions, in Santa Fe. In the early 1990s, Stephanie helped to design, restore and replant the historic El Zaquan Victorian garden on Canyon Road for the Historic Santa Fe Foundation. Stephanie and Rick later moved to Angel Fire, NM, where she designed and planted a large perennial garden. Rick died in 1998 and a few years later Stephanie moved to Taos, first to a small house, then to the Taos Retirement Village. She is survived by her son, Walter A. Rentschler, and daughters, Stephanie Woolley and Patricia McConnell.
The memorial ceremony will be private.
