Steve Gavula, 56, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on July 13, 2005. He was a great musician, guitar player and singer. He played at the Sagebrush Inn for years with The Sagebrush Trio. He also sat in with Bill, Bonnie and Michael Hearne, Johnny Gimble, Pat Burns and many other Taos musicians. He had a incredible sense of humor and was a great teller of stories. He had gone back to college about 2 ½ years ago to get his degree in elementary education. He knew the names of every peak in the Taos and Santa Fe area, and in spite of the fact that he was a polio survivor; he had climbed many of those peaks. He left behind many people who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Gavula who he married in 1995, his parents, Shirley and John Gavula, brothers, John, Jim, Joe, George and Pat, sisters, Mary, Carole and Anna, all their spouses, many nieces, nephews and many other relatives. In lieu of any services, a celebration of Steve's life will be announced at a later date.
