Stephen G. Kelso, 72, of Taos passed away January 3, 2013, college educator, a businessman, a Taos Volunteer Fireman, amateur archeologist and gardener extraordinaire. He was born second of two boys, brother, James, mother, Rae Gibson and father, James Kelso who have all passed away. After teaching literature at TCU and ASU, Steve made Taos his home. He worked at the Little Gallery across from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for the Fullers. He started a part-time job on Saturdays, assisting Paul Burt, his beloved mentor at New Mexico Electric. He went on to work full time for Paul and Jewel Burt and later for their son Gordon, as an electrician. In 1979, Steve was licensed as an electrical contractor and started Kelso Electric. His plan was to do repair work. Before long he opened Taos Lighting Center and Taos Electrical Supply. As a businessman, Steve created jobs for many people. He mentored many people in the electrical trade, in sales and in many of his lifes passions.
He will be missed in life by the many people whose lives he touched and was a part of. He was truly a self-made man.
A celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
