Stephen Walker

May 1, 1947 — June 14, 2017

Stephen Roy Walker, 70, passed away June 14, 2017 from an accident at his home in Questa, NM. Born in Los Angeles May 1, 1947 as the only child of Fred and Mary Austin Walker, Stephen enjoyed being around Hollywood artists, actors and industry professionals. He served 2 years in the US Army, then volunteered for several years as a drug and alcohol counselor before moving to Ojai in the early 1970’s. He worked at Ojai Valley Upholstery with his mentor, Jess Ramirez, before purchasing the business himself in the mid-80’s. In 1987, at age 40, he met the love of his life, Donelle Jamerson, and they married Feb, 13, 1988. Steve became an instant father to four daughters and began navigating the world of parenting. He loved his family dearly during the 30 years they shared. Strong in their Christian faith, Steve and Donelle attended Ojai Presbyterian Church for 18 years enjoying the friends and fellowship they found there. Steve was an avid photographer and loved music, local pottery, art and was a collector of all things he found interesting. After the passing of Donelle’s beloved parents and brother, they moved to New Mexico in August 2007, to be closer to her sister. There, they made new friends through work and the local community, and joined First Presbyterian Church in Taos. Stephen is survived by his wife of 29 years, Donelle, his four daughters: Karri (Rob) Button of Ventura CA; Tambra (Dave) Barron of Arroyo Grande CA; Essie (Dave) Landsverk and Jennifer (Kyle) Kelley, both of Ojai CA; Grandchildren Curtis Pardue-Button and Bryce Button; Tyson, Rachelle and Amanda Dorsey; Breanna (Gabrielle), Madison and Sam Landsverk; and Jack, Nicholas, Peter and Sierra Kelley, and one great grandchild, Lilly McGuire. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 20th at 10am, First Presbyterian Church in Taos.
