Suzanne Gonzales

February 7, 1967 — August 14, 2024

With hearts full of love and reverence, we remember Suzanne (RED) Gonzales, who passed away on August 14, 2024, at the age of 57. Preceded in death by her father, David Gonzales Sr., Suzanne’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though we mourn her untimely departure, we celebrate a life marked by love, achievement, and joy, deeply enriched by her enduring bond with her soulmate, Cynthia (Cyndi) Vigil.

Suzanne was a beloved partner, daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She is survived by her devoted partner of 23 years, Cyndi Vigil; her loving mother, JoAnn Gonzales; her compassionate sisters, Lisa Lopez (Danny) and Josi Vigil (Joe); her cherished brother, David Gonzales Jr. (Veronica); her treasured nephews, Gillie, Daniel, Jordan, David, and Dominic; her adored nieces, Amanda, Kayla, and Amber; and her beloved godchildren, Gillie, Savannah, and Dominic. Suzanne’s life was further blessed by many dear and close friends and the steadfast support of Eva Romero, whose unwavering care was a source of great comfort.

A proud graduate of the University of Southern Colorado, now Colorado State University (CSU) Pueblo, Suzanne left a remarkable legacy both academically and athletically. An outstanding athlete, she earned scholarships to play basketball and volleyball at CSU, demonstrating exceptional talent in both sports. Notably, she was the only individual in school history, men and women, to achieve a quadruple-double, recording 13 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 11 steals against Western State in 1989.  She also led her team to two consecutive RMAC Regular Season Championships in 1988 and 1989. Her induction into CSU’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013 was a testament to her dedication, hard work, and vibrant spirit.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Suzanne continued her passion for sports through recreational basketball and softball, creating countless cherished memories. Professionally, she made a significant impact as the Director of Vocational and Rehabilitation Services at New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute. In retirement, she embraced creative endeavors, including cabinet and furniture making, welding, and tile work, leaving a lasting mark on her home and the homes of her loved ones.

Suzanne was also a gifted storyteller, delighting in sharing her extensive experiences. She took immense pride in her gardening and landscaping, transforming her home into a serene sanctuary. Her radiant smile could light up any room, and her time spent with Cyndi, her mom, and her family was filled with joy, from home projects to enjoying the outdoors. Her beloved Yorkie, Bella, who was her loyal companion for 11 years, symbolized the comfort and companionship she brought to those around her. Above all, Suzanne cherished her family, dedicating herself to her relationships and always prioritizing her loved ones.

Though Suzanne’s passing leaves us with a deep sense of loss, her family finds solace in their cherished memories and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. To honor her memory, donations to breast cancer research, a cause she passionately supported, may be made in lieu of flowers or gifts. Services will be private, as per her wishes.

Suzanne will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her spirit, kindness, and lasting impact. May she rest in peace, embraced by the grace of Our Lord and the tender care of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her boundless love will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts.
