Sylvia Marker

Sylvia Maria Marker, 83, a resident of Coyote passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Mrs. Marker was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy Marker, her parents Medardo and Octaviana Garcia, brothers Medardo and Mateo Garcia, her first husband Eligio Velasquez Sr., and son Melvin Garcia.

Mrs. Marker was an employee with Rio Arriba County for 15 years and worked up until seven months prior to her passing. She was delivering meals to many that were younger than her. Sylvia’s tenacity for life and drive kept her going. She was there for the people she loved in the most amazing ways. Mrs. Marker loved spending time with her family sharing stories or playing games. She was the cornerstone of our family and will be greatly missed. Her legacy of hard work and dedication will live on through her children and grandchildren. 

Ms. Marker is survived by her son, Richard Garcia (Connie) Pinabetal; son, Eligio Velasquez Jr. (Eva) of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Annie Martinez of La Mesa, grandchildren, Tracie, Richard Jr., Monique, Samantha, Eligio Jr., Emma, Elias; 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Suzie Espinoza, Marcella Garcia, Eliaza Montoya (Norman), Ramona Morfin (Jose), and Juanita; as well as her step-children, foster children, extended family members and friends. 

A public viewing and service will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2022 in Espanola at 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 28, 2022. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. 

Serving the family as pallbearers are Eligio Velasquez III, Elias Velasquez, Anthony Jaramillo, Elisha Arellano, Jose Morfin Jr., Orlando Morfin, Isaac Arellano, and Leandro Saenz.

Honorary pallbearers are Richard Garcia Jr., Wilfred Vialpando, Noel Vialpando, Kenny Martinez, Andy Martinez, Jeremiah Salazar, Dante Fresquez, and Richard Garcia III.  

While it is impossible to name each person individually, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for all those who called, checked in on her, and took time to visit. 

All services will be held at Victory Faith Church in Espanola . A public viewing and service will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2022 at 5:00 PM. Church services to follow at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 28, 2022 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetary at 1:30 PM.
