Sylvia Mathews

Sylvia Ann Mathews, age 62, passed away on March 23, 2023. Sylvia was born and raised in the Panama Canal Zone, 2nd youngest of 8 siblings. She moved with her family to Alabama as a young teen. The family eventually made their way to Albuquerque where she attended Sandia High School. Sylvia spent the rest of her life as a NM resident in ABQ, Rio Rancho, and Pecos. She met the love of her life Danny Newman along the way and spent the majority of her life by his side. She enjoyed spending her time creating a home with Danny, gardening, and caring for her beloved dogs, cats, bunnies, and chickens. She was also an avid member of AA in her later years. She unfortunately struggled with several ailments that eventually got the best of her. Her 63rd birthday would have been June 2, 2023. Sylvia is survived by her love Danny Newman, her daughter Christine (Lavender) Mathews, 3 of her siblings and her close friends and neighbors in Pecos. Previously departed include her son William Mathews Jr., her mother Jean (Grabhorn) Dockery, her father Harry Dockery Sr., and 4 of her siblings. Services will not be held at this time; however, her ashes will be spread in the Pecos wilderness sometime in the future.
