Terrence “Terry” Delgado passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. He was born on February 6, 1957 to Marcella Saykally and Joe Delgado. Terrence is survived by his father Joe Delgado; wife Theresa Delgado; son Michael Delgado (Christine Salazar); grandchildren Jonyce, Jerrod and Jade Delgado; mother-in-law Marcia Sanchez; in-laws Liz Cale (Don), Miquela Sanchez, Miguel Sanchez, Charlene Sanchez, Marlene Montoya (Anthony), and Mark Sanchez; nieces and nephews Vanessa Marquez, Shannon Cale-Younis (Basim), Jennifer Arreola (Pablo), Andrew Sanchez, Valerie Montoya (Joseph), Brian Sanchez, Nicholas Montoya (Shannon), Bryan Sanchez and Gabriela Sanchez; aunts Libbie Bauer, Alice Saykally, Stella Kinnison (George), Cecilia Delgado; uncles Gene Delgado (Roxanne), Buddy Roybal (Irene), Nile Quintana. He is also survived by the mother of his son, Gayla Delgado, and the Decker family as well as many very dear cousins and friends that were like brothers and sisters to him.
Terry was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School. He was in law enforcement for nearly 28 years, beginning his career with the Santa Fe City Police Department in 1978 and retiring as a Captain with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. He attended the FBI Academy and graduated with the 193rd Class in 1998.
Terry was a veteran and served as a member of the NM National Guard from 1987 to 2004. He completed an active duty tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while serving with the NMARNG Det 44 Operational Support Airlift Command.
A rosary and mass will be held in Las Vegas, NM on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church (811 6th Street) followed by a procession to Santa Fe at 2:15 PM for military honors at the National Cemetery (501 N. Guadalupe Street).
The family would like to extend their most gracious thanks to the amazing doctors and staff at the Ted and Margaret Jorgensen Cancer Center at Presbyterian Rust Center in Rio Rancho as well as the Kaseman and Presbyterian Hospitals for their care throughout Terry's serious illness. A special thanks to Jennifer Zamora, Joseph Vigil and Dr. McDonald with Amber Care in Las Vegas; and immense gratitude to Dr. Jesus Tafoya. Many prayers and blessings to Chaplain Jose Villegas and Fr. George Salazar for their spiritual guidance and blessings they bestowed upon Terry.
