Terry Germann

1941 — December 5, 2019

Terry Glynn Germann was born on August 8, 1941, at his family’s farm near Holgate, Ohio, to Regina (Sonnenberg) and Harold Germann.  He attended elementary school in Holgate and graduated from Wauseon High School in 1959. He attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating in 1963.  He then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1967. He married Susan (Kroemer) on July 1, 1967. He was ordained into ministry on July 23, 1967, in Wauseon, Ohio. Terry received a doctorate from Eden Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1979. 

 

Terry served parishes in Southaven, Missippi, Helena, Arkansas, Lafayette and New Orleans, Louisiana, Durant, Oklahoma, and Irving, Allen, Dallas, and Paris, Texas. He was also Assisting Priest at St. James Episcopal Church in Taos, New Mexico. He established a practice at Preston Centre Counseling in Dallas, Texas, in 1983, while also working for Lutheran Social Services of the South as Director of Clergy Care. Terry served as a consultant for crisis intervention for Crisis Management International for ten years, spending two weeks in New York after 9/11.  He established a program through Clergy Care to assist churches in crisis.

Terry served as adjunct faculty and consultant to the interim program at Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology in Dallas from 1994 to 2009. He attended bi-annual seminars on the emotional process of family systems with Dr. Edwin Friedman from 1990 to1996. Terry founded and led ecumenical clergy leadership seminars for Dallas-area clergy from 1991 to 2013. He was a certified hypnotherapist and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprograming). He received training as an Intentional Interim in 2005. Many of his sermons are recorded and he was diligent in bringing to people the application of God’s Word in their daily lives.

Terry and Susan have four children: Dr. Jennie Germann (Martin) Molz, Amanda (Jeff) Dalton, Hans (Jessica) Germann, and Luke Germann. They have two grandsons, Elliot Redvers Molz and Hans Henry Dalton. Terry’s children and grandchildren love him dearly and will miss him. Terry loved Lake Gage and Lake James in Indiana. He traveled widely, visiting Germany, Spain, Italy, France, England, The Holy Land, Singapore, Finland, Sweden, and Cuba.  Terry enjoyed camping and sailing with his family.

 

Terry is survived by his wife, Susan, children and grandchildren listed above; brother Randolph Germann and sister Charlotte Price; brothers-in-law Jim (Karen) Kroemer and John (Debra) Kroemer; sisters-in-law Kathy (Mike) Johnson, Sharry (David) Graham, Jane Waggoner; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
