THOMAS EDWARD MORIN JR.
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Edward Morin Jr., a long time resident of New Mexico, announces his passing away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jerri; his children Mollie Sara Givan (Tom), Marc Morin (Karen), and grandchildren Elsa Givan, Oliver Givan, Brady Morin and Ava Morin. His is preceded in death by his parents Anna and Thomas Morin and his brother Jim Morin. Tom was born in Malone, New York. He was a Master Sculptor who received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts College of Art and his Masters from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Tom’s first sculpture show, at age 19, was at the Margret Brown Gallery in Boston. He was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship to study sculpture in Italy. Upon his return to the US he became an Associate Professor at Rode Island School of Design. Tom’s long and successful career, as a sculptor, educator, professor and Academic Dean, is archived at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. Upon retirement Tom settled in the village of Cerrillos, New Mexico where he lovingly restored an old adobe house and built his studio and gallery. He was intrigued by indigenous cultures; he and Jerri shared many adventures on their travels in Asia. Tom lived his life deliberately. He was an avid collector of folk art, a great dancer, and most of all he loved making memories ad telling stories. Tom had a passion for life; he was kind and generous and was forever curious. At the end of his memoirs he wrote, “I have lived the life I always dreamed I would have!” He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will be having private services.
