Thomas Leo Willmott (1935 – 2018) Thomas (Tom) Leo Willmott died peacefully in his sleep in his Santa Fe home in the early morning of January 4, 2018. He was born in Akron, Ohio on September 30, 1935, the oldest child of Leo Joseph Willmott and Mary Cecilia Mekeal Willmott. Upon retirement, Tom and his wife, Catherine, moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico from Cleveland, Ohio, in 2006 and settled in Eldorado. Tom became involved with the Eldorado Community Improvement Association (ECIA), serving as president from 2009 to 2010. Following his work with ECIA, he went on to serve on the Eldorado Water Board. In 2016 the couple moved into Santa Fe. Tom graduated from John Carroll University in Physics and received a master’s degree in engineering from Case University in Cleveland. He married his first wife, Joy Griffin Willmott in 1960, and they had 3 children. He worked at Bailey Controls Company, Beloit Controls Corporation, Foxboro Corporation, Digital Equipment, and Caterpillar, Inc., as an industrial systems design engineer. During the last 10 years of his career, he was a consultant for Technicare, Chase Manhattan Bank, and DuPont. Tom and Joy were divorced in 1992. He married Catherine O’Hara Ferrer in 2005 in New York State. Tom was a long-time member of AA, which he knew greatly improved his life. Tom was predeceased by his youngest brother, Mark. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, his three children, Ann Kathryn Willmott, Edward Leo Willmott, and James Thomas Willmott (Michelle), his grandchildren, Tess, Grace, Chloe, and Griffin Willmott, his step-sons Hugh Ferrer (Jen) and Justus Ferrer, his step-grandchildren Callum, Sophia, Connie and Hector Ferrer, his siblings Joe Willmott (Donna), Peggy Thorpe, Mimi Herman (Jack), John Willmott (Ingrid), Janet Kuras (Tim), and Paul Willmott (Toni), numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He was lovingly supported by Ambercare Santa Fe during some difficult health issues over the last couple of years, for which his family will be forever grateful. A Memorial Service will be held in Santa Fe on Thursday, January 18 at 3 p.m. at Rivera Family Funeral Home, 417 East Rodeo Road. A Celebration of Life will take place on January 22, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
