It is with great sadness we announce the death of our beloved Thomas Haynes Mauer. Tom unexpectedly left this dimension on November 16, 2022, at home in Santa Fe with his dear wife, Anne, by his side. Thomas was born on April 17, 1949, to Elizabeth Haynes Mauer and Donald Mauer in Evanston, IL. He was the middle son of three boys and grew up with brothers, Don and Robert. Tom pursued a career as a professional chef, working in restaurants, private clubs, and country clubs in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, and Santa Fe, NM. Additionally, during his career, he had his own inventory software company, Justin Thyme inc, and owned a bakery, Florene's Sweet Baked Goods, located in Des Moines, IA. On July 28, 2009, Tom married the love of his life and his soulmate, Anne Malone. They happily settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico where Tom loved the weather, the sky, and the community. It was here Tom released his artistic talents. He also continued to bake, selling cookies at the local farmers market.Tom's greatest passion (besides Anne) was food. His fascination with cooking started as a child at his Grandmother Mauer's knee, helping with the annual holiday cookie baking. Tom's Language of Love was food: eating great food, trying new restaurants, preparing wonderful dishes, and feeding people. If Tom loved you, he fed you. And he loved a lot of people. Tom was a gifted individual, not only as an exceptional chef but as a talented artist. As a teen, Tom had one of his oil paintings selected to be exhibited on a nationwide tour.  However, for most of his adult life, Tom put aside his artwork. Once he and Anne moved to Santa Fe, he set up a home art studio and took classes with renowned artist Anita Louise West. He thoroughly enjoyed her training and immersed himself in painting, creating hundreds of watercolors and studies while experimenting with a variety of styles. Many of his beautiful paintings grace the home he shared with Anne and a number of people are fortunate to have his work in their homes. This brought Thomas great happiness and joy. Tom is survived by his wife, Anne Malone Mauer; daughter, Jordan Combs Lonergan (Andrew Lonergan), grandsons, George and Judd; brothers, Don (Nan) Mauer and Robert Mauer; sister-in-law, Karen Malone; nephews, Aaron Peterson and Scott Peterson; brother-in-law, Tom Malone; "sister wife", Kelly Adair. And his beloved miniature schnauzers, Sherman and Thunder. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Donald Mauer; maternal grandparents, Whitmore Thomas Haynes and Edna Mae Mathews Haynes; paternal grandparents, William John Mauer and Dr. Floriene Ann Mauer.Tom was a lifetime learner, loved deeply, and laughed heartily. He was a spiritual being and believed in a higher power. We are grateful for Tom's presence in our lives. We will miss him and know he will forever be in our hearts. We will do our best to honor Tom and live by his motto: "Live in the moment and fear nothing." Rest in peace our dear Tomas.A celebration of Thomas' life is being planned. All these causes were dear to Tom and he believed in supporting them.
