Thure Meyer, 72, passed away on Thursday, April 28th at sunrise after a long, brave battle against colon cancer.
Thure was born on February 11th, 1950 in Berlin, Germany to Erich and Lydia Meyer. His sister Elke was two years old when he joined the family. Early on, Thure was an excellent student with a brilliant mind encouraged by his family and teachers. The seed planted in these formative years would grow into a lifelong passion for knowledge. Thure, his mother, and his sister immigrated to the United States in 1957, relocating to Chicago, IL where Eric awaited their arrival. Thure enjoyed handball and soccer, mathematics, music, especially guitar, traveling, reading, and spending time with his wife Maria and daughter Ligaia. Thure attended the University of Illinois: Urbana-Champaign and DePaul University. He worked for many prestigious organizations, such as Deutsche Bank, IBM, and Medsys.
The Meyer family once again relocated from New York to New Mexico in 2001 where Thure’s path focused on fatherhood, the exploration of nature, gardening, and urban farming. Thure was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Lydia Meyer. He is survived by his wife Maria, his daughter Ligaia, his sister Elke (Peter) Titus, German Jr. Simon (Brother in Law), and Cynthia Borah (Sister in Law).
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to further cancer research.
A celebration of his life and a gathering of friends is scheduled for Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Rivera Family Kiva Chapel of Light, beginning at 5:00 PM.
