Tillie Q. Trujillo – Age 92, of Cuarteles, New Mexico, passed in her home on January 14, 2006, following a brief illness. Tillie, who devotedly made the rounds to the far reaches of Rio Arriba, Taos and Sandoval Counties on the State library bookmobile for 18-1/2 years, retired from the State in 1982. Prior to her employment with the State, she worked at the Santa Cruz Irrigation District for many years.
Tillie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ross Trujillo. Other survivors are daughters: Carmen Betty Payne, local resident; and Shirley and husband, Gilbert Madrid of Port St. Lucie, FL.; Her Grandchildren, Paula and husband, Wade Velten of Springfield, IL; Gil Jr. and wife, Laura Madrid of Atlanta, GA; Kenneth and wife, Mara Madrid of Plantation, FL; Her Great grandchildren, Danielle Mullendore, Lauren Velten, Gil Dempsey, Isabella, Jacey, and Jack Ross Madrid; Her Foster Son, Ronnie (Anna)Lopez; Her Sisters: Flora and husband, Ruben Salazar, Mary Haygood, and Celine and husband, Lloyd Luper. She is also survived by Sisters-in-law, Minnie, Mattie and Celida Quintana. Surviving nieces and nephews are Diane (John) Santillanes, Yolanda Salazar, Judy (Jose) Bulnes, Johnny (Lynn) Salazar, Steven (Fran) Montoya, Debbie (Frank) Montoya, Patsy (Levi) Sandoval, Cecelia (Frank) Olivas, Leroy (Carolyn) Quintana, Bobby (Phyllis) Quintana; Patrick (Sandy), Michael (Choly), and Phillip (Michelle) Luper, and Maria (David) Parker; Michael Quintana; Josephine (David) Mora; Louise (Giovani) Romero; Laura (Michael) Gonzales; Darlene (Gerald) Arellano, and Amy Martinez; and Michael Quintana.
Tillie was also preceded in death by her mother and father, Guadalupita and Ramon R. Quintana; grandson, Daniel Lee Payne, and brothers: Tony, Cenobio, and Mike Quintana, and brother-in-law, Chuck Haygood.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Gil and Ken Madrid, Jesse Maestas, Daniel Bulnes, Steven Montoya and Lloyd Luper. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Paula Velten and Cecilia Olivas.
