In Loving Memory of Tommy Larrañaga, who passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 75, surrounded by his cherished family and friends at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Tommy's life journey began on July 31, 1948, in Rincones Colorados, New Mexico, born to Anita Tapia Larrañaga and Macario Larrañaga.
Tommy is now reunited with his departed siblings: Eloisa (Larrañaga) Couty, Libby (Rose Libradita Larrañaga) Martinez, Gilbert Larrañaga, Esther Larrañaga, Delfinio Tapia, Ramon Tapia, Juanita (Maclovia) Montoya, Mary Larrañaga, and Louie Sandoval. He also joins numerous great-uncles, aunts, nephews, and cousins from the Larrañaga, Martinez, and Tapia families in eternal rest.
Tommy's legacy lives on through his devoted children: Mark Larrañaga, Chris Larrañaga, Esther Larrañaga, and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild Julien Ontiveros Larrañaga, Joshua Ontiveros Larrañaga, Sofia Larrañaga, Mila Larrañaga, Nathaniel Larrañaga, Kaiden Adonis Ontiveros. His presence touched many lives and left an indelible mark on those he loved.
In 1970, Tommy embarked on a career as a skilled plumber, leaving a lasting impact with Jack Mills Plumbing in Everette, Washington, and later contributing to new home development projects in Santa Fe and Los Alamos with Rotunno Plumbing and Frank Mares Plumbing.
Given the opportunity to work in the Santa Fe Public Schools, Tommy dedicated over a decade of his life to Capital High School, becoming a beloved figure among staff and students. His commitment extended beyond routine duties as he passionately engaged in extracurricular activities, leaving his personal touch through concessions, Frito Pies, and Santa Fe Fiesta Floats. He and his daughter Esther were proud to be Jaguars and don the black and turquoise colors of Capital HS together. Tommy took specific pride in the maintenance of the school, and most importantly, always supported the students to stay on track with good grades and served as a mentor to many troubled students.
Santa Fe was not just a place for Tommy; it was his cherished home, where he embraced life's adventures, relishing moments outdoors while hunting, fishing, and camping amidst the serene Aspens. His later years saw a new passion as he honed the art of jewelry craftsmanship, creating heartfelt gifts for those he held dear.
A Rosary service to honor Tommy's memory will be held at 9 am on January 4th, 2024, at St. Anne Parish, followed by a memorial service at 10 am, culminating in a heartfelt gathering with food and desserts. He will find his final resting place at Rosario Cemetery on January 5th, 2024, at 11 am.
We invite all who knew and cherished Tommy to join us in commemorating his life—a life that embodied kindness, generosity, and a deep-rooted connection to the Santa Fe community. Tommy Larrañaga will forever remain in our hearts as a beloved father, friend, and an integral part of our lives.
