The Tor J.P. Mavestrand, The Swedish Handyman, did what none of us thought hed do- he died, Tuesday, May 27th at his much beloved Santa Fe home.
Tor loved nothing more than pulling pranks, telling inappropriate jokes, taking pictures of beautiful things, listening to Miles Davis and partying endlessly with his friends. You bring the Fernet & Marble Brewery IPA, hed have the candles lit with grav lax; Swedish meatballs and elk liver pate waiting.
He was as much devoted to having fun as he was to being Daddy to his one and only daughter, Hannah, better known as Mupsin. They spent much bonding time rolling over the highway in his Dodge dually, Hannah wrapped in her blanket, computer on lap and goodies packed in all around her.
To know Tor was to love him and he loved the Southwest, most especially New Mexico. He always felt extremely lucky to live in the most beautiful place in the world. He said when he arrived in Santa Fe thirty years ago you could still find doctors partying with plumbers. Unlike most artists, who love the New Mexico sun, Tor thought it was too bright to take good pictures but always managed to find the right light no matter where he was shooting.
Tor told us often that he would never die, but if he did, he wanted to go to hell cause thats where all the cool people are. Well Tor, we hope you make it and maybe Louie Armstrong & Danny Kaye will be playing Pennies from Heaven, youll get to tackle in golf and Grant will finally teach you how to use your computer. Hej da, Tor.
Wait, did the flash go?
Tor is survived by his wife, Esodie; his daughter Hannah; his sister in Sweden, Leni; her husband, Thorgny; his motley crew: Izzy, Cleo and Buddy. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society. There will be a private gathering for Tor. If you happen to hear the music, come on by. Another person always brings more to the party.
