Ninety-six years ago, October 5th, 1923, a soul was sparked into being who became known to her family as “Mama Lula.” On January 15, 2020, and as her faith entitled her to believe, Ursula Margarita Cantu, surrounded by her earthly family, was welcomed home by her heavenly family: husband of 57 years, J.C. Cantu; parents Juan Manuel and Domitila Miera Trujillo, sisters infant Magdalena, Nora Chatwin, Lorraine Garza, and Marcia Best O’Bryant, brothers infant Levi, Ralph Trujillo, and Arturo Trujillo, Sr. Also, many beloved in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles will be delighted to receive her quick, unique wit. Bidding sad farewells, and promising, “Hasta la vista” are her surviving brothers Tito and Jesse Trujillo, children Reynaldo and wife Janice, Eugene and wife Jean Margaret, Waldo and wife Lacy, Steven Cantu, Sr., and Tamarah Cantu, twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Missing her wonderful laugh and open, loving ways are numerous friends and extended family. She was a lifelong resident of Taos seeing it change from a small rural village to a famed 21st Century destination, meeting people along the way while working at local businesses, county offices and the Taos schools.
