Verna Chandra Romero, 80 years old, of Ranchos de Taos, passed away on March 25, 2025.
She was born in Florida and later moved to California and New Mexico. She worked as a Nurse Assistant at St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque, NM, and Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, NM, for many years. She later discovered her calling to be a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, and wife to her husband, Pastor David Romero, of the Church of Llano Quemado. Verna enjoyed ministry and serving others. Her passion was to honor God (Yahweh) by studying and sharing scripture, encouraging and loving people in the Taos area. Verna often offered what little resources she had, and her time, to people in need.
Over the last 30 years, Verna could rarely be found apart from her husband David. They enjoyed traveling New Mexico mostly, and other various states when they had time. Whether it was to soak in the scenery and beautiful remote spots in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, or visit their children and grandchildren in the crazy and busy city, they had no problem finding a place to park their camper.
She was a dedicated and proud wife and mother. Through the worst of times her family could count on her for continued support, prayer and love.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arvey Clyde Dean Jr and Bob Dean, and her sister, Pamela Ashley.
She is survived by her husband of over 32 years, David Romero (Taos NM); their children, Sonia (Kevin) Romero of Santa Fe, NM, Elisa Romero of Taos, NM, Timothy Romero of Taos, NM, Joy Romero of Taos, NM, and Zachary (Antoinette) Olivas of Albuquerque, NM; Sister Juanita Benoit of Port Arthur, TX; brother Torrey Dean of FL; and their grandchildren Samantha Olivas, Erik Romero, Izaac Olivas, Jordan Romero, Andres Olivas, Kaelin Ormerod, Silviano Romero, and Jason Angus. Great grandchildren: Daniel Olivas, Legend Olivas, Sophia Olivas, Maximus Olivas, Lydia Romero, and Ronan Romero.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 6, at 2:00 PM at Rivera Family Funeral Homes of Taos. Address 818 Paseo del Pueblo Sur Taos, NM 87571. The burial will be held at the New Llano Quemado Cemetery. The reception will be at her home, the Church of Llano Quemado at 51 West Romero Road.
The family asks that any flowers be ordered through Buds Cut Flowers and More in Taos, NM, (575)-758-3555.
