Viola Roybal – Age 90 went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 16, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Jose Eliu Roybal; parents: Rosana and Nabor Cortez; granddaughter: Amanda Roybal; mother and father in law: Abran and Eliza Roybal; sisters: Teresa Martinez (Pablo) and Mary Vasquez (Elias).
Born in Taos but lived her adult life in Espanola. She retired from the Espanola Public Schools after many years of service. She enjoyed traveling, piñon picking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. In her golden years, she enjoyed visiting the casino, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Robert Roybal (Margo), Gary Roybal (Stephanie), Mary Garcia (Steven), Jo Anne Roybal (Barry), Cecilia Roybal (Ronald); brother: Nabor Cortez; grandchildren: Jared, Francisco, Monica, Rachel, Rebecca, Stephen, Victoria, and Deidre; six great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and three grand-puppies.
Serving as pallbearers: Francisco Roybal, Jared Roybal, Dan Gaitan, Ronald Roybal, Barry Bailey, Orlando Roybal. Honorary pallbearers: Melissa Messina and Gerardo Marquez.
Public visitation for Viola Roybal will start at 5:00 p.m. On Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Rivera Family Funeral Home Chapel followed by a rosary for the repose of the soul at 6:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 12:00p.m. At La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
