Age 77, Loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather,
brother, uncle and friend went home with his Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ on Thursday, December 20, 2012 while surrounded by
his loving family whom he taught how to love.
He was born in Pecos, NM on January 6, 1935. He was a proud
resident of his beloved Pecos. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing
poker, and rummy, but only if you played by his rules! He also
enjoyed putting a smile on people's faces with his genuine love
and of course his endless jokes. Virgil dedicated his life to loving
and caring for his wife and family; he was definitely one-of-a-kind
and touched many lives with his simple smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eluterio and Louisa
Varela; daughter, Luella; granddaughter, Kristian; brother, Sabino;
and father and mother-in-law, Cleofes and Marianita Rougemont.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Varela; his children: Victor
and wife Diane, Gary and wife Maria, Sandra and husband Joe
Catanach, Gloria and husband Matthew Miller. Eleven grandchildren,
seven great grandchildren and one on the way. Brothers:
Eloy Varela, Ernest Varela, and Eluterio Varela Jr; sisters: the
beautiful Inez Varela and Sixta Martinez. Also many, many relatives
and friends.
Virgil will be remembered and missed by all. Celebration of Life
services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Legacy
Church East 4701 Wyoming Blvd NE (just North of Montgomery
Blvd), Albuquerque NM.
The family extends their sincere thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Cristus St. Vincent Hospital who made this very difficult time a little less difficult, especially his personal nurse, Lisa Roybal and Dr. William Leeson. Also, to the many relatives and friends that could be
there with us at the hospital, words cannot express our heartfelt
appreciation for your love and support. God bless you all.
