Mr. Wilfred Salazar, age 67 of Hernandez, NM. died peacefully on Tuesday May 3, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Hernandez, starting work as a young man at Regino's General Store, working at L.A.N.L. for 28 years, and was in The New Mexico National Guard. He enjoyed sports, and was a former baseball & football player for the Espanola Hornets, was an all star coach with the senior league in Espanola. A devout Catholic and member of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church parish in Espanola, he often walked to Sunday mass, refusing offers for a ride to church, by kind people. He was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Marina Salazar, brothers Antonio and Juan Benito Salazar, and sister Ramona Salazar. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Anita Salazar, children; John Salazar and wife Paula of Santa Fe, Bryan Salazar and wife Louise of Las Vegas, NV., Warren Salazar and Penny Gallegos of Albuquerque, and Marina Wells and husband Ken of Hernandez, grandchildren: Jennifer and Nick Salazar, Daniel and Amanda Lucero, Fabian and Amanda Salazar, Zachary and Marisa Salazar, Joshua and Calvin Wells, and two great grandchildren; Isaac and Audrina. His siblings are Roman Salaza, Jr., Claudina and Candido Salazar, and Angie Salazar and Richard of Fairview, as well as special nephew, whom he helped raise; Orlando Salazar, special caregivers Iona Valdez and Lynn Maestas, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Recitation of the rosary was on Thursday May 5, 2011 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola, with The Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2011 also at church, interment followed at the church cemetery.
