William Donald Schafer, born on November 3, 1927 in Alluwe, OK to William Franklin Schafer and Elsie Willhite Schafer passed away April 27, 2016.
Don began school in Delaware, Ok, graduating high school from Oklahoma Military Academy in 1945. Stationed in Korea, Don served in the US Army until 1947. He then went on to graduate from University of Oklahoma with a degree in Industrial Management Engineering in 1951.
Don worked for Dow Chemical for 31 years, assigned to many interesting locations including La Porte, TX; Baton Rouge, LA; Miami, FL; Sao Paulo, Brazil; The Hague, Netherlands; London, England; and Houston, TX<
After retiring from Dow, Don and his wife, Jo, moved to their beloved Santa Fe, enjoying the culture, cuisine, and beautiful views. Family has always been important to Don who spent considerable time visiting his brother, sister-in-law, and nieces. Don continued his love of travel by planning wonderful trips with Jo, and his daughter and grandkids.
Along with travel, Don’s hobbies included golf, investing and spending time with friends. He was known for a sharp mind and quick wit.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Max Schafer. Survived by his wife of 34 years, Helen Jo: daughter Jennifer Goodman (James); grandchildren Jared, Megan, Nathan and Kaela; great-grandchildren Lucas and Jacob; brother, Edward Eugene Schafer (Peggy); sister-in-law Kay Schafer; brother-in-=law Burl Hays Jr.; and nieces.
Don will be greatly missed.
