William Henry Storey III, aged 74, of El Rito and Albuquerque, NM passed away on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023. He passed peacefully, at his home in Albuquerque after an extended stay in the UNM Hospital and a skilled nursing facility.
William was born in Sherman, TX on March 8th, 1949 to William Henry Storey, Jr. and Margaret Clarice Ford. He grew up in San Antonio, TX and graduated from the Alamo Heights High School. After attending a year at UNLV he met Jan Eshaw and moved to San Francisco, CA where they were wed. Many of William's fondest memories were from those years in California living on Fulton St. and attending music festivals like the Monterey Pop. He was a child of the 60s which would explain his lifelong appreciation for la mota. Jan, sadly, was killed in an automobile accident. William married again but the marriage was short lived. Throughout his life he was artistically inclined and for many years he built stained glass windows and mobiles. After coming to New Mexico he worked at the Wester Pines Sawmill in Chama and eventually bought a house there that he still owned when he passed away. At the mill he became the Steward and was a union representative when the mill unionized. Later in life he worked for Albuquerque Builders, Inc. building new stores in malls across New Mexico. His last position before retirement was with Coronado Center in Albuquerque, working for the mall's maintenance department.
In his later years William spent his days drawing and painting. He loved the beaches in Port Aransas, TX and took many trips there with Yvette Chavez, his girlfriend and 'partner in crime'. They spent their days between their cozy home in Albuquerque's Stronghurst neighborhood and William's rustic 'barn' in the middle of alfalfa fields in El Rito, NM.
William is survived by his brother Anthony Storey and his children and grandchildren, and Stephens Storey and his children. We love you dearly big brother and will miss you mightily.
William will be buried in the Storey family plot at their property in El Rito on Tuesday, May 23rd at 1:00pm. All who wish to attend are welcome.
