William Zorumski

Dr. William E. (Bill) Zorumski, 80, a retired NASA scientist and 19 year resident of Taos, died on November 20, 2020 at the Taos Living Center.

Bill is survived by his wife Caryle; his three siblings Marcella, Dorothy and Tommy; his four children Joe, Barry (Karen), Ashley (Jimmy), and Kelsey (Peter); his nine grandchildren Linda (Matthew), Joey (Lan), John, Jessica, Allen, Matthew, Dylan, Emily and Rhys; and three great grandchildren Sylvie, Rowan and Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents George Hamer Zorumski and Mildred Love Zorumski.

Bill was born in rural Missouri and went on to attend college at the University of Missouri at Rolla, the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. His research at NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia spanned a 34 year career in acoustical engineering with 200+ publications and a patent commonly called the Zorumski Liner. He received many professional accolades including a Floyd L. Thompson Research Fellowship, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and the prestigious Decibel Award for research in acoustics.

Bill was accomplished in martial arts earning his 4th degree black belt. He was an avid skier and hiker, climbed 43 of the U.S. high points and loved the mountains of Taos. He was a talented woodworker, a skilled cook and an expert in the art of telling bad jokes.

Bill was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He claimed his wife Caryle as his best friend and did everything in his power to ensure the success and happiness of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed more than we can say.
